New Procedures to Prevent ARC Flash Injuries

Nov 14, 2005
Arc Flash Protection for electrical workers has become a major concern in the past year.
Standards authorities, however, have been working on the problem for several years and guidelines for working safely have been developed.

The starting point in creating a safe work enviroment is to establish the Arc Flash Categories for each area. Then safe work routines must be developed for areas in the various categories and the categories posted. When areas are posted electricians immediately know the requirements for tools and PPE. This can save valuable time in an emergency.

Government regulations on the Arc Flash problem are expected in 2006 in response to the fact that burns, currently are the most frequently reported electrical injury. These regulations will require many electrical equipment areas to be treated as confined spaces.

Industry will have to train employees to deal with these requirements or retain outside contractors. Compliance by contrators is already being demanded by an increasing number of clients.

At C&C we provide our clients with Industry leading levels of quality service. At C&C we have established the procedures needed to deal with all aspects of the Arc Flash problem. Have you taken an inventory of your construction services providers recently?
